Bio Notes
Ana Veloso
DeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Ana Veloso is an Assistant Professor and a member of the scientific board at the Centre of Research CETAC.MEDIA - department of Communication and Art, in the University of Aveiro. She is the current Vice Chair of the Portuguese Society of Video Games (SPCV).
Throughout these years, Ana Veloso has been supervising many students of master’s and doctoral degree levels. She has also been the coordinator of several research projects, such as SEDUCE, EYES ON GAMES, Interactive Magic Places and People and Practices.
Ana received her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Technologies from the University of Aveiro.
Before her doctoral studies in 2006, she obtained her MSc in Biomedical Engineering and bachelor in Computer Engineering from the University of Coimbra.
Her research interests include computer-mediated communication, video games, usability, human-computer interaction and multimedia applications developed for specific publics. E-mail: aiv@ua.pt
Ana PiresUA
Ana Torres is a PhD student in Psychology at the University of Aveiro (UA). She obtained a Master degree in Psychiatry and Mental Health from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oporto and a barchelor in Psychology from the University of Coimbra. She has been working as a researcher since 2005 in the research centre for didactics and technology in Teacher Education.
She has also collaborated with the European research project named INSCAPE and currently, she is one of the researchers of the project “SEDUCE”. Her main research interest is psycho-oncology (the main theme of her PhD thesis).
She collaborates with LUA (University of Aveiro Helpline), offering psychological support to students of the academy and helping them to cope with stress (StressLab).
Ana is a lecturer of Neuropsychology at the University of Aveiro and has several national and international publications for which. she has been awarded a number of distinctions. E-mail: anatorres@ua.pt
Fernanda RibeiroFLUP/CETAC.MEDIA
Fernanda Ribeiro received her barchelor from University of Porto (1980) and her post-graduation in Library and Archival Sciences from University of Coimbra (1982). She holds a PhD from the University of Porto, with the thesis entitled The Access to Information in Archives. In 2006, she passed the “Aggregation exam” at the same university.
She is Associate Dean and Chair Professor of Information Science at the Department of Jounalism and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Arts from the University of Porto and one of the coordinators of CETAC.MEDIA research centre.
Fernanda has published several books and research articles in international journals, conference proceedings, and research textbooks.
Her book Para o estudo do paradigma patrimonialista e custodial: a Inspecção das Bibliotecas e Arquivos e o contributo de António Ferrão (1887-1964) was awarded with “Raul Proença-2006” prize, attributed by the Portuguese Association of Librarians, Archivists and Documentalists. Célia SoaresFLUP/CETAC.MEDIA
Célia Soares is a Ph.D. student in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms (University of Aveiro and University of Porto). She has a degree in Computer Management from the University Portucalense. Since 2000, she has been the owner and the responsible for information systems’ department in DestaForma, Lda.
Célia has also been teaching at ISMAI since 2006. Her research interests include human-computer interaction, digital inclusion and information management. E-mail: csoares@ua.pt
Ivo FonsecaDeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Ivo Fonseca obtained his barchelor in Communication Design, his MSc in Multimedia Communication and he worked on the design and development of corporate management strategies, print and multimedia services of several offices from the Aveiro district.
Ivo is currently a freelancer and an assistant professor at the University of Aveiro (of the courses of Design and New Communication Technologies). His research interest is the experience design (UX). E-mail: ivodaniel@ua.pt
Jorge AbreuDeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Jorge Ferraz received his PhD in Communication Sciences and Technologies and obtained his MSc in Electronic and Telecommunication from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He is Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro (of the course of New Communication Technologies, of the Master in Multimedia Communication and the doctorate in information and communication in digital platforms).
Jorge is a member of the scientific board at the Centre of Research CETAC.MEDIA and the SocialITV (socialitv.web.ua.pt) research team’s coordintator.
He conducts research on new media, cross-platform content, interactive television and the use of digital applications by specific publics. His research interests include the mechanism of presence/absence, online particiption and content sharing.

Lídia Oliveira has a degree in Philosophy from the University of Coimbra (1990), a Master's degree in Educational Technology from the University of Aveiro, in partnership with the University of Valenciennes (France) and Mons (Belgium) (1995), and a PhD in Sciences and Technologies of Communication from the University of Aveiro (2002). She did her post-doctorate (2009-2010) at CES - Centre for Social Studies - Associate Laboratory of the University of Coimbra. In 2010 she did her Aggregation Examination at the University of Aveiro, in the scientific area of Sciences and Technologies of Communication.
She has been a professor in the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro since 1995 until the present.
Lídia is a researcher and the Scientific Coordinator of CETAC.MEDIA. She investigates the implications of information technology and network communication on cognitive and social routines, of individuals, groups and organizations. Her research interests include Communication sciences and technologies, ICT and Education, Multimedia, Social Network Analysis, Cyberculture, Digital Libraries and Communication in the Scientific Community (theoretical and empirical studies). Liliana Xavier SousaUA
Liliana Sousa is a psychologist and a tenured assistant professor at the department of Health Sciences, University of Aveiro. She received her PhD in Education Sciences and she is a member of the research unit that is related to life-long learning and older adults’ care, UNIFAI. From 2003 to 2010, Liliana was the chair professor of the master in gerontology.
She is currently the member of the scientific board of the doctoral program in Gerontology and geriatrics and also the board member of UA doctoral school. Her work has appeared in leading research journals of the area (e.g. Gerontology & Geriatrics Education and Activities, Adaptation & Aging). E-mail: lilianax@ua.pt
Fernanda MartinsFLUP/CETAC.MEDIA
Fernanda Martins has been a professor of Psychology in teaching in higher education course and the responsible for that scientific area at the Faculty of Letters from the University of Porto. She obtained a Master degree and a PhD in Psychology. Since 2005, she has been teaching “Research Methodology” and “Cognitive Psychology” at the same Faculty.
She has also been working as a researcher and she has been publishing research results at national and international scientific encounters.
Since 2007, she has been a member of CETAC.MEDIA research centre, doing collaborative research in the following areas: (1) information literacy; (2) Portuguese TV news scenography; (3) digital inclusion and integration; and (4) the use of ICT by older adults.
She is also a member of the National Order of Psychologists (an initiative of the American Psychological Association and of the American Psychological Society). Her main research interests are Cognitive Psychology, namely emotions and cognition interactions. E-mail: martinsf@clix.pt
Maria AntunesDeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Maria Antunes is Assistant Professor at the departament of Communication and Art, University of Aveiro. She received her PhD in Communication Sciences and Technologies and her barchelor in New Communication technologies from the University of Aveiro. Maria is a member of the scientific board at CETAC.MEDIA and a collaborator of several research projects funded by national entities.
Her research interests include organizational and institutional presence on Web 2.0, eHealth, participatory culture, webradio, self-representation and online participation cultures. E-mail: mariajoao@ua.pt
Óscar MealhaDeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Óscar Mealha is Associate Dean and a member of the scientific board at the centre of research CETAC.Media – department of Communication and Art, in the University of Aveiro. He received his PhD in Electronic engineering from the University of Aveiro (in 1995) and he has been working as a researcher in the areas of human-computer interaction (HCI), usability, information visualization for 20 years.

Pedro AmadoDeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Pedro Amado, Typophile and Digital Tinkerer. Since 2007, he has been an Invited Assistant at the department of Communication and Art, University of Aveiro. He is a member of the scientific board at the Centre of Research CETAC.MEDIA and he is currently finishing his PhD studies in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms with the thesis entitled An active participation in online communities: development of typeface design.
Pedro has obtained a Master in Multimedia Art (2007), and a barchelor in Communication Design (2002) from the Faculty of Fine Arts. University of Porto.
He has also worked as a Design Instructor at the Fine Arts Faculty, and as a Graphic Designer at Serralves foundation. Pedro is a member and the current delegate for the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypl) in Portugal.
He has been awarded with the distinction of “Jovem Criador” in Digital Art (2008) and has been working on his personal aim of bridging the gap between the use of digital technologies and creative design processes. E-mail: pamado@ua.pt
Sónia FerreiraDeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Sónia Ferreira is a Ph.D. student in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms and an Assistant Professor at Escola Superior de Educação (ESE), in the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu.
She obtained her MSc in Multimedia Communication from the University of Aveiro (UA) and she has been working as a researcher on the project SEDUCE- PTDC/CCI- COM/111711/2009. Sónia is also a research grant holder in Lisbon (SFRH / BD / 70092/2010 - COMPETE, FEDER, FCT).
Her work entitled “Use of ICT and the self-concept, mood and quality of life of older adults” was recently awarded with an Honorable Mention in the event “Research day” promoted by the University of Aveiro.
From February to April 2012, Sónia has also participated in the project “Older Adults’ Information Needs, Behaviors and Resources” coordinated by the professor Bo Xie, at the University of Maryland and since September 2010, she has also been the co-organizer of the core television and of the annual video contest occurred in the ESE. Miguel MarquesDeCA-UA/CETAC.MEDIA
Miguel Marques has obtained a barchelor in New Technologies of Communication from the University of Aveiro. He is a research fellow at CETAC.MEDIA.
As a developer of digital platforms, Miguel is interested in projects which are based on user-centred design and human-computer interaction principles.

Liliana Costa is a Ph.D. student in Information and communication in digital platforms at the University of Porto and at the University of Aveiro. She has been working as a researcher in CETAC.MEDIA centre. Her Master’s thesis examined the potential of networked video games for older adults and she has been publishing in the areas of video games and computer-mediated communication.
Her research interests are universal design, video games, virtual communities, three-dimensional environments, human-computer interaction, natural interfaces, eHealth, mobile apps and digital inclusion. E-mail: lilianavale@ua.pt
