The development of assistive technologies addressed to older adults was under discussion at the University of Aveiro
Publication date: April 27, 2013On the 12th and 13th of July, a workshop and a tutorial on 'Assistive technologies addressed to older adults' were held at the University of Aveiro. The event is supported by the iNeighbourTV project with the collaboration of the project SEDUCE, inviting Konstantinos Chronianopoulos, the researcher of human-computer interaction and interactive television at the University of Ionian, as speaker.
A workshop and a tutorial on 'Assistive technologies addressed to older adults' were held at the University of Aveiro, from 12 to 13 of July.
These events had the purpose of bringing together the industry and academia in order to discuss the main recommendations for the development of assistive technologies taking ageing difficulties into account.
The meeting began on the 12th of July, with the following research presentations:
- User-centred design principles and methods for TV and video interaction presented by Konstantinos Chroniapolous, researcher e lecturer at the University of Ionian
- Viewers' identification systems presented by Telmo Silva, researcher at CETAC.MEDIA, PhD student in Information e Communication in Digital Platforms (ICPD) and lecturer at the University of Aveiro
- IPTV Interface design presented by Leonardo Pereira, PhD student at Faculdade de Belas Artes, University of Porto
- iTV Health presented by Francisco Nunes, researcher at Fraunhofer AICOS
- iNeighbour TV: The results of the field research presented by Jorge Abreu and Pedro Almeida, researchers at CETAC.MEDIA and lecturers at the University of Aveiro
- IDTV Health: Project overview presented by Célia Quico, researcher e lecturer at the Lusófona university
- SEDUCE - Senior Citizen Use of computer-mediated communication and Information in web Ecologies presented by Ana Veloso, researcher at CETAC.MEDIA and lecturer at the University of Aveiro
(keynote) (extended abstract) - Self-concept, mood and quality of life of older adults: first analysis presented by Sónia Ferreira, researcher at CETAC.MEDIA, PhD student in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms (ICPD) and lecturer at Instituto Politécnico de Viseu (keynote) (extended abstract)
- Tablet apps for the elderly presented by Ivo Fonseca, researcher at CETAC.MEDIA and lecturer at the University of Aveiro (keynote) (extended abstract)
- Enhancing iPTV with an audio description service presented by Rita Oliveira, researcher at CETAC.MEDIA and PhD student in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms (ICPD)
- The University of Aveiro, the Active ageing and the solidarity between generations presented by Liliana Sousa, prorector and lecturer at Escola Superior de saúde of University of Aveiro
Furthermore, on July 13, the tutorial 'User interface software and hardware technology for interactive video prototyping was held at the Department of Communication an Art.
Konstantino Chronianopoulos, a researcher in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Interactive Television at the University of Ionian, was one of the invited speakers of the conference.
