SEDUCE project on 'Nativos digitais', a TV program transmitted by RTP2

Last Tuesday, 31 of January of 2012, a report on the use and development of multimedia applications addressed to older adults was broadcast on 'Nativos Digitais', a TV program transmitted by the RTP2 station.
Ana Veloso, researcher from the University of Aveiro, highlighted the need to adapt new paradigms of interactions to the difficulties felt by the target group.
A new generation of enthusiasts of multimedia applications emerges with the advent and proliferation of new information and communication technologies. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of older adults who use technological devices and access to the Internet.
According to the data from National Statistics Institute (INE), in 2011, about 12.5% of Portuguese older adults accessed regularly to the Internet and 13.9% used the computer. Although this age group still represents a minority in the access to information and communication technologies, their use of technological devices has been increasing over the years. The activities that they do most are: sending emails, reading news and consulting weather information. The courses of Multimedia have also been popular in the Universities for seniors.
The SEDUCE project (Senior citizen use of computer-mediated communication and information in Web Ecologies) was at the TV program 'Nativos Digitais' broadcasted by RTP2. Ana Veloso, researcher and lecturer at he Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro, emphasizes the need to adapt new paradigms of interaction to the ageing difficulties experienced by the target audience (such as difficulties in terms of memory, perception, attention and low literacy).
