Video games for older adults' research is presented at the 5th Annual Conference Videojogos2012
Publication date: December 20, 2012From 13 to 15 of December, the 5th Annual conference on the Science and Art of video games - Videojogos 2012 - was held at the Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon. 'Networked video games for older adults' and 'Games for people diagnosed with Alzheimers' were some of the main topics presented at the conference.
During the 5th Annual Conference on the Science and Art of Video games, Videojogos 2012, a retrospective on the video game entretainment industry was made.
This conference was organized in accordance to the line of research “Media, Technology, Contexts” of the Centre for the Study of Communication and Culture (CECC), Faculty of Social Sciences of the Catholic University and the Portuguese Society of Video games (SPCV). This year, the event took place in Lisbon from 13 to 15 of December.
The main topics covered: (a) Consumption, Usability and Culture; (b) Game studies and Art, Aesthetics and the design of digital games; (c) Digital games, learning and education; (d) Narrative, history e characters; (e) Economics and Industry and; (f) Computation. Among the different presentations of papers submitted to the conference were:
- MindGym: Games for patients with Alzheimers presented by Ana Veloso in session '4. The experience of digital games', moderated by Catarina Duff Burnay, lecturer at the Portuguese Catholic University (read the paper)
- Networked video games for older adults: a preliminary study presented by Liliana Costa in session '5. Digital games and social change', moderated by Cátia Ferreira, lecturer at the Portuguese Catholic University. (read the paper)
Aphra Kerr, Gordon Calleja, Jonas Linderoth and Leonel Morgado were some of the invited speakers. The next edition is scheduled for 26th and 27th of September at the University of Coimbra.
