Liliana Costa presented her MSc thesis in Multimedia Communication, on July 22, 2013 , at 14:30 , in room 2.23.25 of “Pedagogic Complex” , University of Aveiro.
Liliana speaks about Neworked video games for older adults and the main challenges brought to digital games’ developers when addressing this audience. The study provides insight into a new video gamer profile by employing a survey questionnaire with 245 gamers aged 50 and over, two focus groups and content analysis techniques used to the proof of concept of a networked video game.
Findings indicate that there were no signigicant differences between a younger age group and older adults in their choices of video games played. Adventure games were preferred and problem-solving and memory span were the skills that participants liked to practise. Moreover, cognitive challenges are valued and collaboration between players should be prioritized over competition or combat. The dissertation can be found here.
