End of September is marked by the presentation of the progress of dissertations SEDUCE 2.0

On September 30, Francisco Regalado, Henrique Silva and Sónia Machado presented the theoretical framework and research plan for their dissertations, to be carried out within the scope of the Master in Multimedia Communication and the SEDUCE 2.0 project.

Francisco Regalado presented the progress of his dissertation entitled Gamifying News for the miOne Online Community. The purpose of this dissertation is to understand the potential of gamification strategies for promoting engagement in news consumption, categorized in its various aspects of the reader’s path – reading, sharing, reaction, discussion and relationship with the news. To this end, in addition to reviewing the literature and related works for the granting of the prototype, a questionnaire has already been implemented, with 248 responses from several senior citizens. Subsequently, the prototype was validated by representatives of the main national newspapers and, once implemented, sessions will be conducted with students from the Senior Universities that are partners of the SEDUCE 2.0 project for validation by the target audience. It is hoped, therefore, to obtain, first, a gamification strategy implemented in the context of the miOne community and, secondly, a set of strategies that can be recommended for use in news contexts in online communities.

Then, Sónia Machado presented the progress of her dissertation entitled Co-designing a User Experience Toolkit for Senior Online Communities: A Proposal for the miOne Online Community. The main objective of her dissertation is to understand how co-design can influence the senior user’s experience with online communities and propose a set of good practices or guidelines for the development of senior online communities. To this end, a literature review and a systematic review of the literature on co-design techniques applied to the senior public over the past six years was conducted. Subsequently, a toolkit of co-design activities for interaction with the miOne online community and evaluation of the user experience was developed and applied with students from Senior Universities. In addition, an eye-tracking session was held with five participants, in order to test the navigation of the miOne community, and a focus group with four participants. In the future, in order to measure effectiveness and improve the applied toolkit, a questionnaire will be released to all participants in the co-design sessions.

Finally, student Henrique Silva presented the progress of his dissertation entitled “Gamification for all in a multi-tentant environment: The case of Campus platforms by Altice and miOne foundation”. The Campus is a multi-tenant technology that supports several platforms, characterized by enabling the creation and dynamization of online communities, among which is the Campus by Fundação Altice and the miOne platform. The present study aims to contribute with a gamification strategy for these platforms, with the objective of motivating the participation and involvement of users in the use of online communities. The development research method will be applied to a sample for the convenience of students and professors from the University of Aveiro and Senior Universities, following the different steps: analysis and assessment of the situation, design and realization of the model and implementation and evaluation.
